Understanding the NH35 Movement

What is the NH35 Automatic Movement?
The NH35 is a highly reliable automatic movement developed by Seiko and widely used in both factory-built and custom watches. It features automatic and manual winding capabilities, a power reserve of approximately 41 hours, 24 jewels, and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, delivering smooth and consistent timekeeping performance.
How the NH35 Works
The NH35 is powered by the natural motion of the wearer’s wrist. As the watch is worn, an internal rotor rotates and winds the mainspring, storing energy to keep the movement running. In addition to its automatic functionality, the movement can also be manually wound, ensuring dependable operation even when the watch is not worn daily.
Setting and Operating the NH35
Manual Winding: Unscrew the crown and rotate it clockwise approximately 30–40 turns to recharge the movement. This restores the power reserve and helps maintain optimal performance.
Date Adjustment: Pull the crown to the first position to set the date. Rotate the crown clockwise to adjust. It is recommended to avoid changing the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as the movement may already be engaged in its date-change cycle.
Time Setting: Pull the crown to the second position to adjust the time. Once set, return the crown to its original position and screw it down securely to maintain water resistance.
Hacking Function: When the crown is pulled out for time setting, the seconds hand stops, allowing for precise synchronization.
Maintenance and Care
To ensure long-term reliability, regular use or an automatic watch winder is recommended. Although the NH35 is known for its robustness, strong impacts should be avoided as they may affect accuracy. Routine servicing every 3 to 5 years is advised to maintain optimal performance. For water-resistant models, periodic inspection of seals and avoiding exposure to hot water will help preserve water resistance.
Why Choose the NH35 Movement?
The NH35 is widely respected for its durability, affordability, and proven reliability. Its versatility and ease of maintenance make it a preferred choice for both watch enthusiasts and custom watch builders seeking a dependable automatic movement for everyday use.
